Welcome
I set out on a long journey to become a teacher.
When I came to the United States more than 10 years ago, I pursued graduate studies in journalism at UC Berkeley. By a series of twists of fate, I landed in teaching in China and later in the United States. In the end, I’ve found teaching in a classroom is much more fun than attending the White House press conference.
Hi, I am Chen Zhu, and I am preparing to teach Language Arts and Chinese in Washington State. I completed my undergraduate studies in China and I will soon get my Master in Teaching degree from the University of Washington.
I finished my full-time student teaching at Tyee Middle School in Bellevue School District, and I couldn’t have had a successful internship without the help from my two wonderful cooperating teachers – Tara DeFoe for Language Arts and Sun Burford for Chinese.
In this site, I will explore some of the teaching ideas I’ve gathered from my 11-week teaching experience and my two-year study at UW’s College of Education. I hope after you view the content of this site, you can see how I try to be a warm, knowledgeable, and proficient teacher.
My thanks also go to my academic advisor Jane Kinyoun and my university supervisor Dianne Hanson and the other professors at COE. Without you, I wouldn’t have been here.
